New ECTC schedule to deliver student advantages

This fall, Elizabethtown Community and Technical College will roll out new eight-week class schedules. The initiative, called 8 Week Advantage, offers multiple advantages to students, from new high school graduates to working adults who are coming back to the classroom for the first time in a while. 8-Week Advantage reorganizes students’ schedules, so they can focus on fewer classes at a time. The fall and spring semesters will have two eight-week sessions. One eight-week session will be offered in the summer. For example, during a traditional 16-week semester, a full-time student typically takes five three-credit-hour courses, earning a total of 15 credits. With 8-Week Advantage, that student will take two or three classes per eight-week session. The student will focus on fewer classes at a time and earn the same 15 credit hours. Over the course of the semester, the average time devoted to their classes will not change.

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College’s Military Education Association, sponsored by Abound Credit Union, is a new opportunity to support the college’s nearly 400 military and veteran students.  Launched in 2020, Abound has donated around $3,600 through the association and has goals for expanding the financial support available for military and veteran students through this partnership in 2021 and beyond, according to a news release. MEA will fill gaps in existing aid programs and provide the college with flexibility by paying for textbooks, instructional supplies and career readiness training along with other tailored services and programs. “The ongoing support of Abound Credit Union helps us make success possible for our military and veteran students,” said Megan Stith, chief institutional advancement officer for ECTC, in the release. “We look forward to accomplishing even more together in 2021 and beyond through the Military Education

ECTC to adopt new eight-week schedule

About two years ago, Pate said he began talking to people about the schedule at the college and asked them to do some research. The college began hearing feedback from people at the school about a year ago.
