Progress in School Feeding, but Challenges Remain : Sierra Leone Concord Times

In 2018, President Bio promised to “Expand and improve school feeding programmes
in all pre-schools and primary schools.” Three years later we are examining this promise.
Accomplishments
There are several important accomplishments in school feeding since 2018. For example, the national budget included a dedicated line to school feeding, totalling 70 billion Leones for 2020 and 71 billion Leones for 2021. This May, Sierra Leone also approved the National School Feeding Policy, to guide the implementation of the School Feeding Programme (SFP), managed by the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE). ....

Lake Group of Companies recruits 250 skilled workers : Sierra Leone Concord Times

LAKE Group of Companies has yesterday officially launched their first ever Essential Home and Office Service Delivery at the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists headquarters in Freetown.
Chief Executive Officer of the company, Alhaji K. Tarawally, stated that Lake Group of Companies is a multi-media group of companies, which aims at providing job opportunities for over 250 skilled labourers on a per time basis.
He said they have recruited over 250 skilled personnel including plumbers, building contractors, painters, tillers, labourers, carpenters, masons, who are designed primarily to cause no stress to clients and are dependable with the highest level of professionalism to carry out their works. ....

The Health Reporters Network Sierra Leone and Speak Up Africa first Malaria and Health award ceremony, which was supposed to have been held today, January 22
nd at the Golden Tulip Hotel, has been postponed to Friday 29
th January.
The award ceremony is part of effort to recognize journalists who have done so much in educating communities about malaria and demonstrated exemplary leadership that has brought about a positive impact through their work and initiatives and to also recognize people who have done so well within the health sector.
Speaking to this medium about the planned awards, Health Reporters Network President, Swaliho Vandi said the award is to recognize media practitioners who continue to raise awareness and drive action around important public health issues such as malaria, neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), immunization, sanitation, and COVID-19. ....

The World Health Organization’s (WHO) World Malaria Report 2020, which is posted on their website, reveals that Sierra Leone in recent times has one of the world’s highest burdens of malaria cases – accounting for an estimated 6,824 deaths (or roughly 2% of all malaria deaths recorded globally) in 2019.
According to the Government of Sierra Leone’s own ‘Malaria Control Strategic Plan (2016-2020)’, malaria is endemic in Sierra Leone and transmission has been recorded in all areas of the country. At the time of the plan’s publication (in late 2015), malaria accounted for 40.3% of outpatient morbidity for all ages, and it accounted for 37.6% of all hospital admissions in the country. ....
