question of whether vaccinations should be required for schoolchildren is up for a vote in the state senate. a controversial bill would eliminate exemptions for personal or religious beliefs. kpix 5 s kiet do is in san jose with more on the bill that s already been amended to improve its chances of passage in the full senate. kiet. reporter: good morning. thanks to some political maneuvering this bill is fast tracked through sacramento and could be voted in the senate today. anti-vaccination parents have been flooding the capital in recent weeks. they say this latest move is cheating the law making system. the authors of senate bill 277 amended it so that it won t cost anything. they got rid of the portion that would have required schools to notify parents of vaccination rates. now this allows the bill to skip the appropriations committee altogether saving time and if it ultimately becomes law, california would be the third state in the country to eliminate these exemptions

[ music ] reporter: it s a swan song of sorts for the old business of news. it s changed the last couple of years. reporter: james miller is a contractor selling the san francisco chronicle at the montgomery street bart station, but today is his last day. they are trying to go online and going to home deliveries. they are trying to get rid of us so they can get more profit of home deliveries online. reporter: online and in the apps of the cell phones in the hands of people passing by. the chronicle will still be sold at corner machines like this and at retail stores like cvs but customers say it s just not the same. always like to deal with people. the human touch. reporter: this person works at a kiosk nearby. what i miss most

that matter on kpix 5 news this morning. and good morning everyone. tgif, it is friday november the 22nd. i m frank mallicoat. and i m michelle griego. time now is 6:01. b.a.r.t. trains are not running this morning, and there s no word on when service will begin. we have more with a kcbs traffic alert. it s due to a computer glitch happening shortly after midnight. we re hearing that cal train is working to step up service. they re using two caltrain express trains, 215 and 225. they re making stops this morning to pick up passengers who would typically ride b.a.r.t. that is at 7:40 and 8:40 they re doing that. also the next alameda oakland ferry, there was one set to leave around 6:00 and the next one is shortly after 7 a.m. so far we haven t heard about any extra ac transit service. with b.a.r.t. strikes we see so far we have not gotten word of anything like that. a lot of folks are hitting the roads. we have not activated the metering lights so it looks like they r
