Glenn Osborne, bottom row, center, told a panel of state lawmakers Friday he resented that a former nursing manager was named Assistant CEO at the Menlo Park Veteran s Memorial Home in Edison. As director of nursing, the official did nothing while personal protective equipment was rationed and residents recovering from COVID-19 were allowed to return to their rooms and possibly expose others to the virus, said Osborne, resident council president.

As the deadly pandemic swept through New Jersey’s beleaguered veterans homes, the facilities were left dangerously short of help because scores of nurses and others who were sick and or scared did not come to work.
But internal emails obtained by NJ Advance Media show that while administrators were desperately seeking to hire temporary workers, more than two dozen staff members were mysteriously suspended over still-unspecified allegations of abuse or neglect that apparently could not be substantiated. Unable to be fired, they were paid to stay home and told not to come to work. ....

Glenn Osborne, a 66-year-old retired Marine Corps sergeant and Vietnam veteran, is on a battlefield. Every day, the casualties mount.
From his powered wheelchair at the troubled state-operated Veterans Memorial Home in Menlo Park, Osborne says he has witnessed the suffering of far too many fellow nursing home residents as they lay pale, barely breathing. Some, he said, are left in soiled diapers. ....

There’s a renewed push for a special prosecutor to investigate the state’s handling of the coronavirus outbreak at state-run veterans homes, as requested by the head of the New Jersey Veterans of Foreign Wars.
A news release issued Monday by New Jersey VFW state commander Brian Wiener said that human resource managers were taking action against employees and banned vendors or visitors who wore masks inside the state operated veteran nursing homes, despite advice from the Centers for Disease Control back in February that health care personnel should wear PPE including respirators when caring for confirmed or possible nCoV patients. ....
