Central Bucks victim specialists unit expands to Doylestown Township

The newly formed victim specialists unit at Central Bucks Regional Police will help additional victims soon.  Starting next month, specialists Elizabeth Leone and Karen Edwards will be providing  victims assistance to Doylestown Township, which has its own police force.  “I just wanted to expand our services to include a little more for our victims, Township Police Chief Dean Logan said. The unit, which formed late last year, was created to guide victims through the criminal justice system and help connect them with resources. The three-year pilot program, which is based at Central Bucks Regional Police, also services Buckingham and Plumstead police departments.

"They arm people with information and that information is power. It gives our victims control over their situation," a chief said. "Our residents that work with VSU are less likely to experience that feeling of hopelessness."

Victim specialist unit staffed for Central Bucks police departments The newly formed crime specialist unit the first of its kind in Bucks County  is now fully staffed, according to Central Bucks Regional Police. The department announced Wednesday in a news release that Elizabeth Leone and Karen Edwards have been named victims specialists. In their roles, which are part-time, they will guide crime victims through the criminal justice process. They are based at the Central Bucks Regional Police station, however they will also have desks with Buckingham and Plumstead department offices. Leone, the victim specialist supervisor, has two master degrees in criminal justice and social service, and has four years of experience with Bucks County Children and Youth, and four years of experience with Bucks County Youth.
