Plans for a new medical marijuana dispensary in Pleasant Hills are moving forward. Pleasant Hills Council recently voted 4-2 to grant site plan approval for the Ethos Cannabis business at 560 Clairton Blvd. Council President Cheryl Freedman and members Eileen Solinas, Nicole Leckenby and Robert Karcher voted in favor. Greg Smith and Marion Haley dissented. Council Vice President Andrew Codelka was absent. The proposed building is a little less than 3,000 square feet with more than 50 parking spaces in the lot. It would be next to Great Clips, H&R Block and Mariner Finance. “I think it’s a terrible location,” Smith said. “They’re going to have problems with the traffic spilling out onto Route 51.” ....

Pleasant Hills council reappointed a familiar face as its leader and newer one as its second in command. Cheryl Freedman and Andrew Codelka were named president and vice president, respectively. It was a unanimous vote Monday night with no other nominations to the positions. This will be Freedman’s second year as president and sixth year on council. Codelka is in his second year on council and first as vice president. Greg Smith was vice president last year. ....
Pleasant Hills property owners will pay more in real estate taxes this year. Council recently passed its 2021 spending plan with a one-mill tax hike. The new tax rate is 7.75 mills. The median home value in the borough is about $143,500, which means that property owner will pay about $143.50 more in taxes this year. Borough manager Kelly Theiss said the millage increase is for garbage collection. “Our current garbage billing software is over 20 years old,” Theiss said. “Over the last two years, we’ve been evaluating options for the billing process such as purchasing new software, outsourcing the billing to a third-party company, creating an annual billing program instead of quarterly, or including the garbage fees directly in taxes. Upon review, the most efficient and cost-effective option is to make an adjustment to the tax millage and no longer invoice for garbage.” ....
