A 47-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the weekend incident.
The suspect, who was detained on suspicion of burglary and assault, remained in custody on Monday night.
Tommy McDowell (88) was pinned to his bed in his Granville Gardens home by two masked intruders, who then fled when he fought back. The pair forced their way into the house at around 7pm on Saturday.
The elderly man was upstairs at the time when the two suspects entered his bedroom.
Tommy said: I was lying on top of the bed having a wee doze and I heard someone in the room. I thought it was my son Gary or daughter Mandy but when I got up I saw the figure of a stout fella and there was a young fella with him. ....
