Nine banks incur net losses in Q1 | The Daily Star

The specialised development bank also incurred a net loss of Tk 533 crore last year.

SEC to look into alleged misuse of Padma Bank funds

“We’ve received the complaint filed by former home minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir on the Padma Bank. We are working on the matter. We will seek the Padma Bank’s statement,” SEC Chairman Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam said at a dialogue organised by the Economic Reporters Forum in Dhaka on Saturday.
Alamgir, the founding chairman of the bank, has alleged that his successor Sarafat invested Tk 1 billion of the bank in a fund in a “breach of rules”.
“We will talk to the asset management company as well. We will check everything to determine which information is correct. Everything will happen according to the law of the land. There is no reason for deviation on our side,” said SEC chief Islam, responding to a query from a reporter. ....

Janata casts a pall on banking sector’s profit
The state-run lender logs a staggering Tk 5,054cr loss in 2020; StanChart posts highest net profit of Tk 1,225cr
Net profit in the banking industry plunged 44 per cent year-on-year to Tk 5,279 crore last year because of the massive loss incurred by state-run Janata Bank.
The state lender made a net loss of Tk 5,054 crore in 2020 as it had to keep aside a vast amount as provisions against bad debts, provisional data from the central bank showed.
Standard Chartered Bangladesh posted a net profit of Tk 1,225 crore, the highest among all lenders, in contrast to Tk 1,163 crore a year ago. ....
