How Pakistan Navy’s bold operations rescued stranded seafarers

In pursuance of established national objectives, the Pakistan Navy always actively participates in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations under the ambit of Military Operations Other Than War (MOOTW). On 21 March 2021, reports of OSV MEHR (a Tanzanian flag ocean tugboat) being dead in water in the Red Sea with six Pakistani crew members onboard was shared on social and electronic media. Upon confirmation of the reports and directions from the relevant ministries, PN Ship ZULFIQUAR, which was deployed in North Arabian Sea for a regional maritime security patrol, was tasked by the Naval Headquarters to expeditiously head towards the Red Sea to provide technical, medical and humanitarian assistance to the crew of OSV MEHR.
