Be disputes there is talk about the world getting together trying to sort things out. whether for united nations or not that is often the topic of discussion. i have actually seen nothing except for they re getting out of there for safety reasons. why isn t the un part of the discussion now? there is zero chance the united nations will have anything to say about this. this is an internal matter in egypt that. is the way they d look at it. egypt one of the powerful third world countries in the united nations, i m sure at this point their diplomats saying to stay out. the withdrawal of un personnel doesn t surprise me. other diplomats are leaving. it s not surprising they re going as well. the united states doesn t see this as an internal matter, the united states is involved with president obama speaking to cairo. people are paying attention. the united states has a different view than the un as far as who should help and who should not? ....
Just as the u.s. is in constant conversation right now with egyptian leaders, principle the army. once again, what secretary of defense gates is doing right now is talking to his counterpart in cairo. that connection is the central connection, and the rest of it kind of spins off from that. if there is something dramatically different that takes place on the political side, that is the game changer for israel, for the u.s., for the entire middle east. jenna: great perspective for us today, marvin, always nice to have you. look forward to talking to you again, sir. gregg: thousands of americans, now trying frantically to get out of egypt as chaos and confusion reign in cairo. these americans need help. what the united states government is doing or not to get them out of harm s way. and looters in egypt ransacking museums, targeting priceless chambers to scramble to save ....
Movements that are very well o rgd. at the moment what is happening is that the islamist movement and the movement for democracy have both got a common objective which is getting rid of various regimes, fine. after that they ve got a profound disagreement about the future. reporter: and speaking of those islamic movements, one of them hamas seems to be a clear winner. you are look at a video of a reunion in the gaza strip. hamas militants escaped the prison and because the police and army in egypt were preoccupied they were able to smuggle themselves across the border between gaza and egypt. historically egypt has patrolled and secured for the state of israel. they were receiving disturbing news, a lot of the arab media around here, ma ham eud gaman, from the the muslim brotherhood ....
Right now. many of them who are not able to get out on commercial airlines, they re asking us for help. so we re going to be helping them and any other americans who are trying to get out. the problem for some people is they might have return plane tickets from egypt, back to the u.s. or wherever they are going and they may not get to the airport and their flight may be canceled once they get there. there is pretty much chaos at cairo airport. it is open and operating but a the report of flights are canceled. staying in cairo could be a little dicey. as p.j. crowley told us earlier there is looting in the streets. prisoners have been released from the prisons. things are a little bit dicey. americans that want to leave are being assisted. jenna: a developing story for sure. steve, thank you. gregg: washington, washington is calling for an orderly transition in egypt as chaos spreads across the region and thousands of americans are desperately trying to get out as steve ....
Are people he knows, these are people he trusts. i m just not sure, gregg, whether or not this is going to be enough for the crowds. i m worried about that we may have a situation where basically we re rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic. we need to find a way to move forward, to find a peaceful transition to a system where the people of egypt have greater economic and political opportunity, but still is prowestern and still is a force of stability in the middle east and that s going to be a real challenge. gregg: let s talk about the muslim brotherhood, they are progenetors of various organizations, including al-qaeda, islamic jihad. they are claiming we re a minor player in all of this and we would not establish, they claim, an antiwestern radical islamic regime if they were to take charge. do you buy that? not really. they re the biggest and best organized group in egypt ....
