Edwards County Schools have set registration dates for the next school year. Online registration will begin for Edwards County Schools on Friday, June 14th. In-person registration will be offered in the attendance centers of Edwards County High School a well as Albion and West Salem Grade Schools on Monday, July 24th from 9 am until 1 pm and 2 pm until 7 pm. Officials with the school have also released book rental feeds for the year. There will be no cost for early childhood students. Those in K-12 will pay $70 in book fees. A Fee for industrial arts students is $25 with a $20 technology fee for students in 6th thru 12th grades. Drivers' Education at the High School will be $100. The athletic participation fee is $100 per athlete with a family maximum of $300. In the lunchroom, prices for lunch for Kindergarten thru 5th Grade lunches will be $2.95. Students in grades 6-2 will be charged $3.20 for lunch. Those on reduced lunch will pay 40 cents while Adults will pay $3.70 for lunch
The Edwards County School Board will hold their reorganization meeting this evening at 7 PM in the K-12 Band Rook. The board will look to accept the official election results, seat the new board, and administer the oath of office. The board will adjourn the meeting to send off the board members leaving the board. Following the adjournment, the board will elect new officers, approve meeting dates, approve existing policies and procedures, adopt the Illinois Association of School Boards Code of Conduct, and nominate a WOVSED representative, Under new business, the board will move to approve a volleyball camp for the Edwards County High School. Under the superintendent's report, the superintendent will go over board member training. The meeting is open to the public.
A songwriter and a singer from around the area have topped to Country Music Charts Bailey Zimmerman's hit, Between a Rock and A Hard Place has hit number 1 on US Country Airplay Chart. The song is currently number 2 on the Hot Country Billboard chart behind Morgan Wallen's Last Night. Zimmerman is currently touring with Wallen in Australia. Zimmerman is from Louisville in Clay County. His new album, Religously: The Album drops on May 12th. One of the writers of Between a Rock and A Hard Place, Jet Harvey also has ties to the area. Harvey is originally from Memphis, Tennessee, but graduated in 1994 from Edwards County High School in Albion. The other two writers involved in the song are Heath Warren and Jacob Hackworthy.
Fairfield Memorial Hospital's Mobile Mammogram Unit will be in Edwards County on Saturday. The unit will be at Edwards County High School in Albion starting at 8 AM. Hospital officials say that no appointment is necessary if you are over 40 and it's been over a year since your last mammogram. Edwards County High School has announced that Dezirae Bailey is February's student of the month. Bailey was nominated for the award for her work in the classroom.
