An orientation meeting for parents and eighth grade students of Albion Grade School and West Salem Grade School who will entering Edwards County High School next fall will take place this Wednesday. The meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria at Edwards County High School. Principal Dale Schmittler, will review important rules for high school students while guidance counselor Kelley Biggs, will discuss course requests and graduation requirements. Nurse Erica Anderson will explain the health requirements for high school. At the meeting, parents will receive more detailed information about courses and scheduling. Immediately following the meeting, the high school will hold an open house. This will be an opportunity to meet the ECHS staff and see the classrooms. Eighth Graders and their parents are urged to attend.
The annual dinner meeting of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce is set for Monday, March 13th. During the meeting the Business of the Year and Community Service Award will be presented. Nominations for recipients of the awards are being accepted through January 31st at the Chamber office. Nominations can also be made by calling (618) 842-6116 or by writing the to the Chamber at 121 East Main in Fairfield or through the Chamber's Facebook page. Last year's Business of the Year was La Fuente and the Community Service Award went to Tim McBride. Some blood drives are scheduled in the region this coming week. The next drive at the Community of Christ Church in Fairfield is set for Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. til 5:30 p.m. in the church's Family Life Center. Other drives will take place March 15th, May 17th, July 19th, which is the Donorama, September 20th and November 15th. A drive will be held at the Wabash County Health Department in Mt. The 6th annual Wayne City Matter's Hometown Christmas Parade will take place tonight beginning at 7 p.m. Sandy Baker will serve as this year's Parade Marshal. Awards will be given in several categories, including 1st, 2nd and 3rd place entries. There will also be free hot chocolate and cookies from the Church of the Harvest, a meet and greet with Santa and Disney Princess, free hot dogs and chips from Yellow Rose Smokehouse, and food available to purchase. Lineup for the parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the judging starting at 6:30 p.m. 19-year-old Agustus Wrangler Hodges of Ellery was jailed early Friday morning after Illinois State Police pulled him over just after 2 a.m. Friday in Wayne County. As part of Make a Difference Day retail merchants and participating stores will have specials, raffles, and more during their Moonlight Madness Sales this evening from 5-8pm, with merchants donating a portion of sales to MADD. Hayden Brown will perform from 5-6:30pm, Nathanial James at 6:30-8pm. Big Boy Catering will be serving up Porkburgers and Drinks with a portion of all sales going toward MADD. Donation boxes will be available downtown, entry free by donation, all proceeds will go to FCHS for Make a Difference Day.
