Rockland Trust Co. has chosen Dawn Mugford as its chief risk officer, replacing Edward Seksay who will remain as general counsel of Rockland Trust and parent company Independent Bank Corp. and as president and board chair of Rockland Trust’s affiliated charitable foundations.

Rockland Trust foundation pledges $50,000 to MVCS
The Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation has pledged $50,000 to Martha’s Vineyard Community Services to support the organization’s continued expansion of its campus, according to a press release.
The money will be doled out over the course of five years, and helps launch phase 2 of the MVCS capital campaign, which is raising $15 million to build a new main campus building to house the Island counseling center, disability services, urgent care center, emergency services, and administration.

Rockland Trust charitable foundations launch racial equity grant program for nonprofits

HANOVER – Rockland Trust and its affiliated foundations have announced a Racial Equity Grant Program. The program will provide local nonprofits with funding to support projects that advance racial equity within their organizations. This initiative furthers Rockland Trust’s commitment to diversity and inclusion to the communities it serves.
“At Rockland Trust, we are fortunate to be able to invest in resources to help us build a work environment where colleagues’ differences and similarities are recognized, valued, and celebrated,” said Chris Oddleifson, chief executive officer of Rockland Trust. “We recognize that not all organizations have the same opportunity. This program will assist nonprofits which, like us, are working toward a more fair and just future for their colleagues and our local communities.”
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck the region last spring, few people were prepared for its impact. Families, workers and businesses were all hit hard by the devastating symptoms of the illness and resulting trauma to the economy.
Among those reeling from the virus were nonprofit organizations and agencies that serve the most vulnerable populations in Southeastern Massachusetts. Many were left wondering not if they could continue to provide programs and assistance, but if they would even be able to survive the financial damage resulting from the coronavirus shutdowns.
“Absenteeism affects our funding,” said Michelle Markowitz, president and CEO of Cardinal Cushing Centers in Hanover, which provides educational and vocational training for intellectually challenged individuals. “If we have to shut down, it really hurts our bottom line.”
