I met Andrea Suarez December 7, 2020, when she and a friend came to Lewis Park on the tip of Beacon Hill. I connected with We♥Downtown on Facebook and saw a post about the event at Lewis Park. Along with Andrea and Bryan, two dozen members of the Seattle Latino Hiking Club arrived independently, besides hiking, they clean parks in King County. That weekend it was Lewis.
Since, I’ve volunteered with what’s now called We♥Seattle, doing work the city dropped due to COVID and politics. There’d been a lot of illegal dumping, casual litter, and debris around camps in public places, ignoring it only made it worse for everyone, including homeless people. The City Council killed the Navigation Team as it was involved in sweeps, relocations, cleanups, whatever you want to call them.
