Former Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis believes that the Prime Minister, Ingrida Šimonytė, could be more active in the search for a consensus. At the same time, Giedrius Surplys, a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs (URK), proposes to announce a new competition for the ambassador to Poland and asks rhetorically why the President has not thrown in the last trump card – he did not announce that he can no longer trust the Minister in charge of the country's diplomacy.
"We have received an unofficial answer so far that such an inquiry might exceed the President's constitutional powers - which sounds very strange. It is probably not for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assess the constitutionality of a request. But in this case, there is no answer and the question of whether there was a competition (.) will be left hanging", Jansonas told the news portal tv3.lt in an interview on Wednesday.
"We can talk about the same Head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Mr Žygimantas Pavilionis, who is now actively expressing his advice or opinions to the President," Jansonas told Žinių Radijas on Tuesday, explaining his previous statements and his analysis on the influence of the statesmen.
„As far as possible solutions to this situation are concerned (the Constitutional Court is also mentioned), however, I see that the President has all the keys to resolve this situation: either to say what makes someone unsuitable or to choose a candidate from among the candidates put forward – as I understand it, several qualified candidates have been put forward – or to put forward one of his own. All options are available,“ she explained.
„The disclosure of names is a breach of confidentiality, a breach of the law. According to the law, the VSD is obliged to launch an investigation into the disclosure of an official secret,“ Januška posted on Facebook on Thursday, referring to the Lithuanian Diplomatic Service Act.
