Edo NUT suspends 3 week-old strike On Nigerian Union Of Teachers Public primary school heads and teachers in Edo, under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Teacher (NUT), have suspended their three weeks industrial action over wage issues. The union suspended the strike after an emergency State Wing Executive Council (SWEC) meeting in Benin on Friday. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the union directed teachers to go on strike on Jan. 18, over non-payment or incomplete payment of 2013 to 2015 promotion arrears of some teachers. The union also demanded reinforcement and guarantee payment of primary school teachers’ monthly salaries on or before the 27th of every month as directed by Gov. Godwin Obaseki. ....
Public primary school teachers and headteachers in Edo, under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Teacher (NUT), on Friday, suspended their three-week-old industrial action with a call on the state government to urgently meet their demands. TODAY February 1, 2021 The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Edo State Wing, has defied today (Monday)’s resumption order of Governor Godwin Obaseki by asking parents and guardians to keep their children and wards from public primary schools. It insisted that the indefinite strike started by Edo primary school teachers on January 18 was still in force. Edo NUT, on Sunday in a statement by its Chairman, Pius Okhueleigbe, Assistant Secretary-General Mike Itua and three other members of the executive, said the union was resolute in ensuring that freedom for displeased primary school teachers must be now or never. The statement said Edo NUT had not called off the indefinite strike, urging the public to ignore the misinformation and propaganda of the Obaseki administration. ....
