Breaking news out of oakland. On the mondays deadly Apartment Fire new email show firefighters wanted the building shut in january. Ken bastida is following the paper trail. Ken. Reporter liz, fire crews at nearby station 15 sounded the alarm on what they saw as a dangerous situation. The fire captain fired off an email on january 8 saying, quote, i recommend that we consider shutting this building down immediately due to the danger to life safety. Crews were ordered to do another inspection, which they did the following day. A month later, another dire warning from station 15 according to the email chain on march 18th, the ent was still pressing for code inspectors to take a look. The according to the email chain, on march 18, the Fire Department was still pressing for code inspectors to come over and take a look. The inspection with the owner present steams have happened last week. Seems to have happened last week. But on monday the earlymorning fire killed four people displaced 80 o
Calling 911 immediately. When he called 911, he was told by the 911 operator that there was actually a fire in his building and that he should get out. Unfortunately, and this was notice just in the experience for allesandro, but for other residents of that building, he tried to open the window, but could not get the window to open. So he had the bravery and the judgement to actually break the pane, and he climbed out of the window and you have to know that this building is a 3level 3story building and that all of the housing was actually on the third floor, where allesandro was. He climbed down from the third floor to the second floor, and carrying his dog was able to actually jump to the firefighters who were there to help him. I dont know i have never been in a fire before, but as an adult, i can imagine that all of us would probably be scared and nervous and not really know what to do. I have another in memoriam and this is an in memoriam for an institution, a legend in the mission, alfonzo, a mainstay of the district and activist whose important work took his life from san juan to new york and back and finally landing 30 years in San Francisco. He was known for his trademark brown fedora and elegant style died of lung cancer. He was born in puerto rico and grew up in the barrio. He contracted polieo from the standing water near his home, but his will was unshakeable. He was involved in the proindependence moment and even as the university of puerto rico expelled him and a hundred other student for this activism, he continued to fight. He moved to new york and became involved with the Puerto Rican Nationalist Group young lords, as well as the anarchistgroup up
