Area educators receive County Teacher of the Year honor

(iStock/Vyacheslav Petelin) Eleven public school teachers in northeast North Dakota have been selected as County Teachers of the Year from among 110 educators who were nominated for the honor, according to Kirsten Baesler, state school superintendent. Of the 110 nominees, 81 teachers completed applications to be considered. The applications were screened by an eight-member committee that included education group representatives and a former Teacher of the Year.

Records: Edinburg assistant principal admits to stealing $400 worth of comic books from McAllen store 1 day 11 minutes 45 seconds ago Wednesday, April 21 2021 Apr 21, 2021 April 21, 2021 4:29 PM April 21, 2021 in News - Local By: KRGV Digital Team Photo Credit: Hidalgo County Jail Records An assistant principal at Edinburg High School was identified as the culprit accused of stealing more than $400 in comic books from a McAllen store, according to the criminal complaint against him.  Juan Martinez Jr. was arrested Friday after he admitted to stealing several comic books from Kaboom Comics in McAllen, the complaint stated.  Police were called to the store on April 14 after a store employee noticed issue No. 252 of The Amazing Spider-Man, valued at $300, was missing from its location near the register.

Eunice D. Evenson Eunice D. Evenson, age 89 of Edinburg, ND passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at the Park River Good Samaritan Center. Eunice D. Evenson was born August 19, 1931, in Walsh County, ND. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Mabel (Ulberg) Haug. She graduated from Edinburg High School in 1949. After high school she obtained her elementary teaching certificate from Moorhead State University. She later completed her Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education through an outreach program offered by Moorhead State University. She completed her degree while she continued to teach full time in Lankin, ND. Eunice was united in marriage to John M. Evenson on June 20, 1954 in Edinburg. Since John was enlisted in the US Army at that time they lived in Ft. Sill while John completed his military service. Upon John’s discharge from the army they moved to Bemidji, MN where they taught. In 1959 they moved to Edinburg where they built a home and resided there.
