Microsoft Edge Chromium is starting to roll out for Xbox consoles Mar 7, 2021 09:12 EST with 18 comments If you ve been waiting for Microsoft s new Edge browser to show up on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles, well, you d probably be one of few. However, it s finally available, as spotted by Windows Central. A small group of Xbox Insiders are getting it now, and it will probably roll out to the general public in a matter of weeks. The reason that this needs to be done in weeks instead of months is that Edge Legacy will no longer be supported after March 9. Microsoft working to unify Edge codebase on all platforms, mobile betas coming soon Mar 5, 2021 11:30 EST · Hot! with 10 comments Microsoft has been adding a bunch of useful features to its Chromium-based Edge browser, with the latest round of updates bumping the offering to version 89 on the desktop, bringing performance improvements to browser launches, sleeping tabs for better resource management, and the general availability of vertical tabs. The company recently added Collections and tabs and history sync to the mobile versions. However, the Android version of the app is still based on version 77, with an update to the underlying version long overdue. ....
Microsoft Edge is getting a new Extensions menu in the toolbar, now available for Insiders Mar 2, 2021 18:28 EST with 27 comments Microsoft recently introduced a bunch of changes to the Edge browser that were aimed at improving the usability of the offering. These include the revamped favorites and history menus, a streamlined downloads UI, and more recently, the enhancements to Collections. Today, the firm announced another change coming to select Dev and Canary channel users, and this time, it relates to extensions. Users that tend to use multiple extensions might have a cluttered toolbar owing to all the icons crowding the real estate next to the Omnibox. The only alternatives are to either move icons into the ellipsis menu or access them through the dedicated extensions page. We’ll start with the Canary channel, which now allows testers to open Office files directly in the browser – similar to how you would open PDFs -, as well as introducing a Kids Mode (perhaps not too dissimilar to Kid’s Corner from the Windows Phone 8 days).
