John Edward "Eddie" Loesch, along with two brothers and a sister, grew up on a farm southwest of the Zion community, learning early in their lives the value of hard work and family. They would be confirmed at nearby Zion Lutheran Church and, when World War II erupted, Eddie Loesch was well into adulthood when called into the service.
