Utilities in Valley invest millions in upgrades | News, Sports, Jobs


Millions of dollars were invested into power, gas, water and sewer providers to bolster and modernize their service systems in 2020, and greater investment is on the horizon this year.
Ohio Edison, Dominion Energy and several local utilities all have plans in the works or on the drawing boards.

As the viral outbreak forced people to spend more time at home, Ohio Edison focused on revamping its service.
The company completed grid modernization, improving electric service reliability for more than 200,000 customers in the Mahoning Valley, according to spokeswoman Lauren Siburkis.
Also, more than 20 new automated reclosing devices, which operate similar to a circuit breaker in a home, were installed, limiting frequency, duration and scope of some service interruptions. In addition, 11 miles of existing power lines were replaced with a thicker, more durable wire and new utility poles were installed to support the new lines. ....

After five years, the UW-led research team has successfully traced the previously unexplained coho salmon mortality to a formerly unknown chemical that is a byproduct of an industrial chemical widely used to preserve rubber tires of which three billion are produced annually around the world. ....

Essential Utilities Inc. (NYSE: WTRG) announced today that Robert Davis will succeed Ed Kolodziej as president of the company’s Aqua Ohio water and wastewater utility. Davis most recently served as director of public utilities for the City of Cleveland, where he was responsible for Cleveland Water, Cleveland Water Pollution Control and Cleveland Public Power. Kolodziej will retire from Aqua Ohio effective Feb. 12 after 10 years of service. ....

New US Covid cases were at a record 247,737 on Friday on the worldometers site that I watch; that would be nearly 40% of all the new infections reported worldwide on that day as per that site.However, the Johns Hopkins dashboard is showing a record 1,489,000 new Covid infections worldwide on that date, more than double any previous one day total..I have to assume that s in error, and my best guess would be that somehow the data was entered twice, and they ll eventually correct it.Regar ....
