And i will have an answer on that in the next couple of weeks. president biden campaigned on canceling some student loan debt. after more than year of pressure from activists, he says he will soon make a decision. tens of millions of americans hold 1. 6 trillion dollars in federal student loans. biden does have the authority to use executive action to cancel that debt. up until now he has been extending the pause on student loan payments that has been in place since the beginning of the pandemic. a solution finally seems to be coming to a head and conservatives are waging attacks. jeff stein is an economics reporter at the washington post. he covers the student debt debate and other issues. he joins me now. jeff, to speak on the context here the pause on payments started during the pandemic as part of the emergency measures. it has been extended multiple times by the biden administration. the reason, i think, that we are seeing this issue surface now is that as the legislative agen ....
