John and Carolyn Torello are looking to add a new revenue stream to their farm by building a little sunshine in Cheshire. The owners of Old Bishop Farm recently gained approval to host events such as weddings, wine tastings and parties. They are now seeking separate permission to build “the Sunshine Barn” events venue to diversify the land’s offerings. It’s a trend that many agree is vital to help keep small farms alive. Project proponents say there are no similar venues in Cheshire, and that farmers must continually seek new ways to diversify.

Sweet Claude s set to open in Ball & Socket complex as project takes shape

Sweet Claude’s ice cream shop could be up and running in its new location as soon as this weekend, making it the first tenant to open in the Ball & Socket Arts complex in Cheshire. The opening of Sweet Claude’s and the ongoing revitalization of the former button factory site along West Main Street has been a group effort, led by the non-profit Ball & Socket Arts with the help of local officials and state funding.  Sweet Claude’s owner Kelly Anne Pearce said her ice cream shop has all its permits and approvals in place to begin operating, hopefully by Aug. 12.
