reverend register green served walter memorial baptist church in northwest for more than 40 years. he says he applied some of king s philosophies to his own work. turner sat down with green who said king s outlook had a big impact on his life. he was a freedom writer when he first met dr. martin luther king jr. he tells me the day he got out of jail was the first time he met him. looking back at that experience, it was one of the best things that happened to me. he remembers it like it was yesterday. he was a college student preparing to study theology when he decided to become a freedom writer. protesting segregation at rail and bus terminals in the deep south. the philosophy at this point is no bail, jail, no bail. he spent close to two months in the mississippi state penitentiary because of it. this letter will probably relieve you. at 77 years behind bars to his parents. he and other freedom writers were invited to the ebenezer church to meet dr. king ....
