A trash truck barreled through a stop sign while coming down a hill in Bechtelsville before dawn Monday, then traveling through a yard and crashing into a wooden shed, injuring the driver, Eastern Berks Regional police said. The crash happened shortly before 6 a.m. at East Main and Franklin streets. Traffic was diverted off East Main Street for about five hours until a crew from Berks-Mont Towing could remove the truck. Eastern Berks police said the Whitetail Disposal Inc. truck driven by Shaun Campbell, 35, address unavailable, was eastbound on Franklin, police said. The truck didnât stop at the intersection with East Main and continued across that street into a yard before slamming into the shed, demolishing it, police said. ....
Boyertown Area Fire & Rescue crews made quick work of an apartment fire Thursday in Colebrookdale Township. The first crew responded about 9:20 p.m. to the fire at 133 Sawmill Road. Eastern Berks Regional police were already there when firefighters arrived, said G. Jeffrey Bealer, public information officer. The fire was in a self-standing apartment separated from the main residence by a breezeway. Crews quickly put out most of the flames and worked to contain the fire. - Advertisement - No one was injured. The fire is under investigation by the township fire marshal, but there are indications it started due to a malfunctioning kerosene heater in the apartment, Bealer said. ....
