SANDYVILLE Firefighters battled a brush fire that spread across approximately 10 acres on Wednesday evening, according to a Facebook post from the East Sparta Volunteer Fire Department. The fire was about 500 yards east of the Sandy Valley school complex. It occurred on the south side of the 5600 block of state Route 183, in Sandy Township. It started when a farmer was attempting a controlled, agricultural burn to clear the land for the new growing season, according to the fire department. The fire was reported at 8:27 p.m. Firefighters reached the scene at 8:31 pm. and extinguished the fire at 8:49 p.m. The fire was approximately a quarter mile off the roadway and accessible by only brush trucks, the fire department said. ....
