Fort Walton Beach man drops Bay Drive easement request

Listro s Wednesday move follows by one day his request for a continuance of a scheduled May 11 hearing at which the City Council would have considered his requests. The continuance had been granted as per city policy.
He confirmed the withdrawal of the application but said he did not care to comment as to why he had taken the action.
Asked if he might consider reapplying at a future date, Listro said, I m not sure at this time.
Listro s first request would have had the city vacate an area that runs from a narrow tip at the south end of Listro s 44 Bay St. lot to Choctawhatchee Bay, a distance estimated at about 14 feet. ....

Destin, Florida East Pass Beach Area will be fenced in by the Air Force

DESTIN New safeguards are coming to the Air Force s East Pass Beach Area next to the Marler Bridge.
In a letter to the editor of the Northwest Florida Daily News last Friday, Brig. Gen. Scott Cain, the 96th Test Wing commander at Eglin Air Force Base, provided an update on that portion of beach:
“This time last year, I closed the East Pass Beach Area to recreational activities and vehicle parking. I did so after close consultation with state and local agencies that have an interest or involvement in that area.
“I closed the area as a result of several concerns that were brought to my attention including water and traffic safety, as well as unauthorized commercial activities on federal property. In order to reduce these risks, we closed the area to recreation and went forward with the placement of barriers to deter parking along the roadway. ....
