Kirksville police settle morning standoff situation

The Kirksville Police Department worked a peaceful end to an early morning standoff on Thursday.
At about 1:37 a.m., the Adair County E911 Center received several calls from a 29-year-old man who said he planned to harm officers and himself, according to a KPD release. He called from a residence on the 900 block on East McPherson, and officers previously attempted to locate the male regarding warrants for his arrest.
Officers created a perimeter around the home and alerted neighboring residents of the situation to keep them safe. Police then negotiated with the man, whose identity was not released, over the phone. He yelled and threw fireworks from outside the home before being convinced to surrender without incident. ....
