New Haven Honors Fallen Firefighter Ricardo Torres Jr.

Hundred of firefighters from New Haven and around the country have come to New Haven to honor and celebrate the life of firefighter Ricardo Torres Jr. as he is laid to rest today.
Torres, who grew up in West Haven, had dreamed of being a firefighter from the age of 2. He joined the New Haven Fire Department in July 2019 and was assigned to Engine 6, Fourth Division.
Torres family was presented with the Martin E. Pierce Medal of Honor and Torres name will be placed on the International Association of Fire Fighters Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial by Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, Colorado. ....

EAST HAVEN, CT A weekend crash involving a motorcycle and a car injured three people, police said.
Fire and police responded to the area of Foxon Road and Maple Street for a report of a motorcycle versus car accident, according to East Haven police Capt. Joseph M. Murgo.
Murgo said that police found a 2012 Harley Davidson, with driver and passenger, was traveling westbound on Foxon Road when it collided with a 2021 Honda Civic which was also traveling westbound. ....

Crowd Assaults Cops Responding To Bonfire With Snowballs, Ice, Other Objects, Police Say

Police in Connecticut were attacked with large chunks of ice, snowballs, and heavy items as they attempted to disperse a large crowd at a bonfire, causing officers to use pepper spray.
The incident took place on Monday, Feb. 15, when East Haven Police officers were dispatched to 113 Bradford Avenue, to assist the East Haven Fire Department with a large crowd burning a large bonfire, said Captain Joseph Murgo.
Dispatch informed responding officers that the crowd was throwing snow and ice balls at Fire Department personnel who were on scene to extinguish the large illegal bonfire, Murgo said.
With tensions escalating, the crowd began to throw other items at the Fire Department as well as more items into the large fire, he said. ....
