Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive back Rico Murray announced his retirement Thursday after eight seasons in the Canadian Football League, including six with the Tiger-Cats.

“We would like to congratulate Rico Murray on an excellent playing career. He was not only a great player but also a great leader and teammate from start to finish,” Ticats head coach Orlondo Steinauer said. “In his six years as a Hamilton Tiger-Cat, Rico played a big role in helping lay the foundation of our defensive model. We wish Rico and his family all the best in life after football. Thank you, Rico.”

The Montreal Alouettes announced a number of player signing Friday, highlighted by veteran Canadian offensive lineman Kristian Matte and All-Star defensive back Greg Reid. The Alouettes also added former Saskatchewan Roughriders wide receiver Naaman Roosevelt.
The 35-year-old Matte has spent his entire 10-year career with the Alouettes and earned his first East Division All-Star nod in 2019.
In his first season as a Rider, Powell made 215 carries for 1,093 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns, earning him second in the league in yards and tied for first in touchdowns. He added 296 yards receiving and another two touchdowns. The 32-year-old back played in all 18 games for the Green and White and was part of a strong ground game that along with quarterback Cody Fajardo rushed for a league best 22 touchdowns. Throughout his CFL career, Powell has had three 1000+ yard seasons, played in 53 regular season games and registered 715 carries for 3928 yards and 25 touchdowns. He’s also caught 127 receptions for 1,015 yards and six touchdowns. Powell has made three playoff appearances including the East Semi-Final in 2017 and East Final and the Grey Cup with Ottawa in 2018, and the West Final with the Riders in 2019.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed Canadian defensive back Mike Edem and long snapper Jorgen Hus to one-year contract extensions, the team announced Wednesday.
Both players were eligible to be free agents on Feb. 9, 2021.
Edem, who was named a West-Division All-Star in 2019, is entering his fourth season with the Roughriders. He played in all 18 regular season games, plus the West Final, amassing 69 tackles, seven special teams tackles, three sacks and one forced fumbles en route to achieving a career-best season.
