The s&p rose 11, the nasdaq jumped 25. taking a look at overseas trading, in tokyo, the nikkei up 25 points. while in hong kong, the hang seng gained 147. a strong earnings outlooks for alcoa helped stocks climb to a five-month high on tuesday. investors hopes for a strong earnings season were lifted by heavy aluminum demand. chin in s high imports of copper last month helped drive the rest of the material sector higher. caterpillar rose 3%. jp morgan chase added 2%. tiffany and company plunged 10% after slashing its full-year profit forecast. elsewhere, orange juice futures surged a record 10% on news some brazilian imports contain a potentially harmful fungicide. news that fitch ratings does not expect to cut france s aaa credit rating helped ease ....
I m julia boorstin with your cnbc market wrap. the dow jones industrial soaring 146 points. the s&p 500 adding 16 points. the nasdaq jumping 43. some solid earnings outlooks easing fears of a double-dip recession. alcoa and csx reported after the closing bell on monday. those were both better than expected. but it was their positive forecast that kicked this rally into high gear. now more earnings coming out after the closing bell today. shares are up 2% at the close. moving higher after hour ls. and fast food giant yum brands beating expectations as well. profits in china are up by 33%. finally as they meet to decide whether avandia should be taken off the market. ....
