Russell Housman, serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole in the Alabama prison system, asks for people to be open-minded about what he and others say are inequities in the state’s Habitual Felony Offender Act (HFOA).
Housman’s step-father, Danny Dodson, is trying to convince legislators to fix what Dodson also sees as an inequitable law. Dodson has made some progress. A bill in the Legislature would allow some people sentenced under the HFOA to ask for a new sentence in the the court where they were convicted. ....
