More and more people are getting outside and riding their snowmobiles as the temperatures drop and more snow hits the ground, creating a better surface on which to ride the machines.
Local law enforcement, including the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Cheboygan County Sheriff s Department,Tuscarora Township Police Department and Mackinaw City Police Department are all out patrolling the trails, making sure people are obeying the law. This season started with a bang, said Sgt. Mark DePew, area law supervisor for Otsego and Cheboygan counties with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Gaylord Operations Center.
DePew said at the beginning of the winter, when the first snow hit, people really came out and started snowmobiling. But, the little bit of a warm up hit and things started to slow down as trail conditions really deteriorated.
