Bushwhacking Eagle Cliff and Downing Mountain Eagle Cliff and Downing Mountain are two New Hampshire 500 Highest peaks located near Stinson Lake outside of Rumney, NH. They’re in a section of the White Mountain National Forest that doesn’t have many maintained trails, so they’re seldom visited. Snowmobiling is popular in this area, however, and there is a well developed and maintained trail network that hikers and mountain bikers can access if they wish to explore the area. So, with my new sense of looking forward I went on a hike that took me backward in time to the Mohonk Mountain House. This iconic, 300-room Victorian hotel, built-in 1869, remains as beautiful, posh, and exclusive today as it did then. U.S. Presidents, actors, artists, and musicians love the anonymity that the sprawling complex and 8000-acre grounds provide. ....
