Facebook Messenger has been updated to alert users when a screenshot is captured in a Secret Conversation, while adding new functionality to the end-to-encrypted chat feature. Users will be able to send GIFs, stickers, react with emoji and quote reply to messages, while using Secret Conversations, according to the company.
WhatsApp is working on indicators to inform users that their calls and Status are protected by end-to-end encryption. The company already protects messages and attachments, as well as calls and Status on the app, after turning on the feature for all users back in 2016. The indicators are currently not visible to users, as they are under development, but should appear in a future version of the app.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, does not plan roll out end-to-end encryption (E2EE) by default on Messenger and Instagram until 2023.
