New preliminary study reports that out of the people who develop Alzheimer s disease, depressed people may start experiencing symptoms of dementia about two years earlier than those without depression. People with anxiety may start experiencing the symptoms about three years earlier than those without anxiety.
Along with anxiety and depression, the study also screened for a history of other disorders - bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and schizophrenia.
The study involved 1,500 people with Alzheimer s disease, out of which 43% had a history of depression, 32% had anxiety, 1.2% bipolar disorder, 1% post-traumatic stress disorder, and 0.4% schizophrenia. ....

A new study has confirmed associations between functional seizures and psychiatric disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, and sexual assault trauma.
The research was carried by Lea Davis, PhD, associate professor of Medicine and an investigator in the Vanderbilt Genetics Institute and team.
In a large-scale study of electronic health records, Vanderbilt University Medical Center investigators have determined the prevalence of functional seizures and characterized comorbidities associated with them.
‘A novel association between functional seizures and cerebrovascular disease, including stroke has been identified.

Functional seizures are sudden attacks or spasms that look like epileptic seizures but do not have the aberrant brain electrical patterns of epilepsy. ....
