The Portage community is mourning the death of a Portage High School student killed in a Sunday car crash on Stagecoach Road. The Porter County Coroner’s Office identified Dylan Childers, 17, of Portage as the passenger of the car that Portage police said went off the roadway and rolled, landing on its passenger side. Childers died at the scene.
"The Portage Township school system had made a crisis team consisting of counselors and advisors available to the student body," Portage Police Lt. Rob Maynard said.

Who has been your greatest influence and why?
CHILDERS: My greatest influence is my dad, by encouraging me to do better in and out of school and guiding me through life.
What were you involved with in high school?
CHILDERS: I wasn t involved in any sports or anything, but I ve been working for a couple years now.
Describe your feelings as you approach the final days of your high school career.
CHILDERS: I m excited to get my diploma and move on to college.
