Another slew of vehicle burglaries has Galesburg Police investigating numerous thefts over the past week. On Tuesday, November 29th, police responded to the 200 block of Duffield Avenue after a 28-year-old man reported his 2008 Chevy Uplander was burglarized. The man said the passenger door doesn't latch properly. Over $65,000 in jewelry was taken as well as $750 worth of Jordan brand shoes. The man showed officers the appraisal documentation for the jewelry. Also on Tuesday last week, GPD responded to the 300 block of North Broad Street after a 22-year-old female reported her 2010 Ford sedan was burglarized. She discovered numerous items scattered around her vehicle and missing was her blue snakeskin wallet that included her ID. On December 1st, GPD responded to the Silas Willard parking lot after staff discovered the catalytic converter on a 2015 Ford Cutaway van was taken. Just before 8:30 in the morning on Sunday, March 27th, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Fulton Street for reports of a burglary in progress. Callers told police the male suspect had departed the area. Officers tracked down the suspect who was running from Blaine Avenue to Duffield Avenue and ordered him to the ground - to which he complied. 19-year old Jacob Smith of Galesburg was then taken into custody. An emotional Smith told police a family friend said he could take clothes from a shed on the property on Fulton Street, according to police reports. Smith was transported to the Knox County Jail and was charged with Burglary and a valid $25,000 Knox County Warrant for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. Galesburg Police on Sunday, October 3rd around 7:40 pm responded to the 200 block of Duffield Avenue for a domestic disturbance. Officers spoke with a female victim who told officers she got into a verbal altercation with a 38-year old male suspect who is the father of one of her children. During the argument, the suspect went into an adjacent room and began battering the female's 10-year old son. When the female went to intervene, he began battering her as well. She jumped from a window to escape - causing a laceration to her hand. The male suspect then left the residence with their three-year-old child whom the female has full custody of. Officers spoke on the phone with the male suspect who was being uncooperative. A short time after the phone conversation, the female received a text from the male suspect saying her vehicle was parked down the road. Officers responded to the location of the vehicle to find the SUV abandoned with the three-year-old inside crying and wearing only ....
