Kcrg tv nines mark carlson joins us live tonight from the lake. Mark, officials really want to bring that lake level down . Yes, its urgent. They dont want the lake to freeze above the normal winter pool. Right now theyre discharging about 10 thousand cubic feet of water per second into the iowa river. Thats about 75 thousand gallons a second, much higher than normal for december. Officials say if the lake freezes high it could cause a shelf like effect that would be dangerous for anyone who walks out on it after it freezes, because there would be ice, air then water. The good news, the corps can really open up the gate this time of year. Down stream our constraints growing season when we got things growing in the farm fields down below and it allows us to discharge up to 10,000 cfs, and were going to continue to run that and hopefully it will quit raining soon. Having the gate so wide open is having an effect down the iowa river. Much of lower city park is under water. And bike trails ....
