SITUATION OVERVIEW
On 14 February 2021, the Ministry of Health (MoH) of Guinea declared a cluster of Ebola virus disease (EVD) cases in the subprefecture of Gouecke, N Zerekore region, Guinea. Gouecke, the epicentre of the outbreak, is one of IO sub-prefectures that make up the N Zerekore prefecture. Gouecke is located 42 km (26 miles) from central N Zerekore with a total population of about 23,458 inhabitants in 3,364 households.
As of 3 March, 17 cumulative cases (4 probable and 13 confirmed) have been declared and among those cases, eight have died (4 probable and 3/4 confirmed). Nine confirmed cases and two suspected case are currently in isolation in dedicated health care facilities in N Zerekore and two have been released from the treatment centres in of Conakry and N Zerekore. ....

Geneva / Conakry – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is mobilizing to help stop the resurgence of the Ebola virus disease (EVD) in Guinea and appealing for USD 8 million to support essential outbreak preparedness and response activities, and critical coordination efforts at the national and prefectural levels and key border crossings.
On 14 February, the Ministry of Health of Guinea declared an EVD cluster in the sub-prefecture of Gouécké, in the southeastern region of N Zérékoré. This is the first time EVD has been reported in the country since the 2014 2016 outbreak, which spread across land borders into Sierra Leone and Liberia claiming more than 11,300 lives. ....

Guinea launched an Ebola vaccination campaign on Tuesday after a fresh outbreak of the deadly disease struck the country this month, with officials hoping to eradicate the virus in six weeks.

Guinea continues fight against Ebola with mass vaccinations


Guinea is continuing its fight against the deadly Ebola disease with its mass vaccination campaign that started on Tuesday.
It comes after the latest outbreak this month which killed five people in the southeastern region of Nzérékoré.
They were the first cases in Guinea since the 2013-2016 epidemic that killed more than 11,300 in West Africa.
The World Health Organization has sent 11,000 vaccines to Guinea this week and plans to send 8,000 more.
