JOHANNESBURG - Uber Eats drivers are planning a nationwide strike on Friday to demand an increase in their fees.
The drivers are demanding a pick-up fee of R20 and then R6 per kilometre after the first two kilometres. They currently get a pick-up fee of R10.
The Uber Driver Partner Association s Duane Bernard said, they have capped restaurant fees at R9 per meal and they ve shifted that discount that they ve given the restaurants onto drivers. ....

More affordable fees are designed to help delivery drivers by boosting user demand so more people are ordering more often through the Uber Eats app, says the company.

Uber Eats has downplayed a threat by drivers, who are “fed up” with reduced fees, to stage a nationwide strike on Friday, saying many drivers don’t support it and will “continue operating as normal”.
Duane Bernard, speaking on behalf Uber Driver Partners SA, told TimesLIVE that due to a decision by Uber Eats to bow to pressure from restaurants and reduce delivery fees from 30% - plus 5% to the driver - to a capped fee of about R9 a meal, as well as “activating” too many drivers on the platform, drivers were now earning about R150 less per 20 orders than they were at this time last ....

Uber Eats drivers will be switching off their apps for the day on Friday as part of their latest strike against wage cuts.
Uber Eats drivers are once again preparing to embark on strike action.
They say concerns they have over wages have not been adequately addressed by Uber bosses.
The drivers staged a walkout back in December bringing deliveries in Gauteng to a standstill for two days in protest Uber Eats cutting their delivery fees.
Duane Bernard is from the Uber Driver Partners Association and spoke to CapeTalk s Africa Melane on Tuesday. ....
