Australia Market extends gain


At closing bell, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 added 17.61 points, or 0.25%, to 7,082.28.
The broader All Ordinaries rose 26.02 points, or 0.36%, to 7,346.03.
Miners were mixed, with iron ore miners BHP and Rio Tinto each gaining 0.9% - while Miner Fortescue Metals retreated 0.2% on the back of a weaker than expected quarterly result.
Supermarket giant Woolworths was the most significant drain on the market, dropping 3.9% to $39.81 after a disappointing quarterly result and news it would not be proceeding with a controversial Dan Murphy s liquor store in Darwin.
In economic news, the export price index rose 11.2% this quarter and 8.6% through the year. The import price index also rose 0.2% and fell 6.2% through the year. ....

Australia Market ends near 14-month highs


The Australian market finished session marginally higher on Friday, 16 April 2021, as expectations of a global economic rebound on strong U. S. and Chinese economic data was offset by profit taking after market reached a 14-mongh high the previous day.
At closing bell, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 was up 4.83 points, or 0.07%, to 7,063.45. The broader All Ordinaries added 8.31 points, or 0.11%, to 7,325.77.
Global stocks neared record highs after U. S. retail sales, jobs and Chinese economic growth data cemented expectations of a solid global recovery from the coronavirus-induced slump.
Shares of mining heavyweight BHP rose about half a percent and rival Rio Tinto gained 1 percent as iron ore prices recovered from losses in the previous sessions. ....

2021 Notice of annual general meeting
The annual general meeting of Rio Tinto plc will be held at 11:00am on Friday, 9 April 2021 at 6 St James s Square, London, SW1Y 4AD.
Due to the UK government restrictions on public gatherings to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, and mindful of public health concerns, shareholders will not be permitted to attend the annual general meeting in person. Shareholders can instead participate in the annual general meeting virtually via a live webcast, where they will be able to vote and ask questions.
