MARTINS FERRY The Belmont County Staying Clean Club is celebrating another year of encouraging local students to stay off drugs.
Club organizers, including Martins Ferry Police Chief John McFarland, are rewarding participating students about 1,200 children in grades 7-12 with free boxed lunches from Chick-fil-A and sweet treats from Jack’s Snacks at their respective schools.
The club’s Facebook page has posted numerous photos of students receiving their treats handed out by McFarland during the past few days. ....

ELKINS Victoria Sturm of Clarksburg, has been awarded a $10,000 per year scholarship for a total of $40,000 over four years to Davis & Elkins College after participating in Senator Leadership & Scholarship Day in March.
Sturm, a student at Robert C. Byrd High School, was selected from a group of the 62 highest-achieving high school seniors who are among hundreds of students accepted to attend D&E this fall.
Sturm is the daughter of David and Andrea Sturm of Clarksburg. At Robert C. Byrd High School, Sturm is a member of the National Honor Society, Executive Student Council, Key Club, Drug Free Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also is a member of the varsity basketball and soccer teams and plays for the North Central West Virginia Swish girls travel basketball organization. ....

Marwa Appoints Ighodalo, Others as NDLEA Special Purpose Committee Members

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has appointed the President, The Drug Salvation Foundation and National Coordinator, NDLEA Celebrity Drug Free Club, Wilson Ighodalo, as a member of NDLEA Special Purpose Committee (SPC).
Ighodalo and several others were appointed to the committee with the goal of mobilising Nigerians to take ownership of the fight against drug abuse.
The honour was bestowed on the anti- drug campaigners in Abuja during the inauguration of the “Special Purpose Committee (SPC)” to mobilise Nigerians take ownership of the fight against drug abuse.
Accepting the honour, Ighodalo noted that he was “ humbled and honoured to be member of NDLEA Special Purpose Committee”, adding that “as the name implies, SPC is a critical and strategic committee of His Excellency General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), OFR., Chairman Chief/Executive Officer, NDLEA”. ....

Elks Names Students of the Month for December, January | News, Sports, Jobs

Wheeling Elks Lodge No. 28 has announced its Students of the Month for December and January. The December winners are Lily George and James Jin, both seniors at The Linsly School. For January, Lauren Marquart and Andrew Glass, both seniors at Wheeling Park High School, earned the honor.
George, the daughter of Ronee and Edward George of Wheeling, is a Senior Prefect and the Academic Committee Head Chair. She is senior class president, and a two-year captain of the girls soccer team. She is also the editor of the yearbook staff and a member of the Drug Free Club.
Jin, the son of Wenqing and Xin Jin of China, is a Senior Prefect and president of the Math and Ping Pong clubs. ....
