Driving law: Elderly pensioners 25 times more likely to have penalty points than teenagers

Over 572,000 offenders were in their 40s while data showed over 568,000 drivers in their 50s with points on their licence.
The highest single age with the greatest number of people with penalty points was 49 with over 63,000 offenders.
However, additional findings from the Freedom of Information report found there were up to 8,800 people still on the road despite having more than 12 penalty points.
The highest number of points currently held by one individual was a massive 68, over 50 points higher than the disqualification limit.

But drivers may avoid bans if being unable to drive could cause them “exceptional hardship”.

Driving law: Penalty points for dropping litter would be 'powerful' and 'hurt' motorists


Cameras will verify the evidence and use data from the DVLA to secure offenders details.
Penalty Charge Notices will be sent through the post with £90 fines being issued to offenders.
Prices can even rise to £120 if road users fail to pay the penalty within 15 days.
Maidstone Council has revealed just 200 fines were issued for littering last year.

This is because drivers can only be charged for littering if they are caught by traffic wardens or police officers meaning thousands of offences could go undetected.
The council claims the new scheme will be run with a zero-tolerance policy which could see thousands of penalties being issued to drivers. ....
