HARRISBURG, Pa. Governor Tom Wolf announced his intention to nominate Alison Beam to serve as Secretary of the Department of Health and named Dr. Wendy Braund Interim Acting Physician General.
Beam currently serves as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Tom Wolf, coordinating initiatives and resources across Pennsylvania’s departments of Health, Human Services, Drug & Alcohol Programs, Aging and Insurance, as well as the Office of Advocacy and Reform. She has helped coordinate the administration’s COVID-19 pandemic response; the rollout of Pennie, Pennsylvania’s health insurance marketplace; the Reach Out PA campaign; and the Wolf Administration’s health care reform plan. ....

Gov. Tom Wolf will nominate his deputy chief of staff to lead the state Department of Health, taking the place of Dr. Rachel Levine, who was tapped earlier this week by President Joe Biden as his assistant secretary of health.
Alison Beam, 34, will take over as Acting Secretary of Health on Saturday. The position has become much more visible during the coronavirus pandemic, with Levine becoming the face of the crisis in Pennsylvania. ....

Alison Beam has been nominated to be Pennsylvania s next Secretary of Health. Beam, who is Gov. Tom Wolf s deputy chief of staff, would replace outgoing Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine.

Gov. Tom Wolf is going outside the Pennsylvania Department of Health for his next health secretary.
Beam’s top priority will be the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines, a source of frustration for many Pennsylvanians anxious to get the shots. The governor’s administration this week expanded eligibility for the vaccines to those 65 and over and younger people with chronic medical issues or high risk. But the demand for vaccines far exceeds the available supply and officials are asking for patience. ....
