The movie industry is chock-full of films devoted to slavery, the civil rights movement and Black trauma. While these films are important for educational purposes, especially during Black History Month, it’s important to recognize lesser-known films in Black entertainment.
Black characters deserve to be seen in happy-go-lucky romances, light-hearted comedies and coming-of-age dramas. From tearjerkers to comedies that’ll make viewers fall out of their seats laughing, here are 10 movies to watch in celebration of Black History Month that aren’t focused on Black trauma.
