Oscar- and Emmy-winning actor and DGA Award-nominated director Regina King will step into the director’s chair for Legendary Pictures’ big screen adaptation of the comic book series
Bitter Root. According to
Variety, King will also serve as producer on the film. Additional producers will include director Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian of Proximity Media. The original
Bitter Root comic creators David F. Walker, Sanford Green and Chuck Brown, will executive produce the film adaptation with Drapetomedia’s Sean Owolo.

Oscar-winning actress-turned-director Regina King has officially signed on to helm Legendary’s upcoming film adaptation of
Bitter Root, based on Image Comics’ acclaimed comic book series. The project is being described as
Get Out meets
Blade which will center around a monster-hunting family in the 1920s Harlem Renaissance. In addition to directing, King will also be serving as a producer through her Royal Ties banner along with
Black Panther director Ryan Coogler via Proximity Media.
