A new episode of the Pacific Heartbeat series, titled “Hawaiʻi’s Precious Resources,” highlights the endangered Hawaiian land snails (kāhuli), exploring conservation efforts and the emotional toll of working to prevent their extinction.
Thousands of rare, threatened and endangered Hawaiian snails were moved from their home at a trailer in Kailua to a new, lab facility in Pearl City Thursday morning, in a transfer that caretakers have dubbed, “The Great Snail Bail.”
The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife has created a unique virtual field trip that allows students to experience a world-class conservation program focused on protecting endangered kāhuli (native land snails).
