Komiteti Organizator i Lojrave Olimpike të Tokios shkarkoi të enjten drejtorin e ceremonisë së hapjes së ngjarjes sportive, për shkak të një shakaje me Holokaustin, që ai kishte bërë gjatë një shfaqjeje komike në vitin 1998.
Presidenti i Komitetit Seiko Hashimoto bëri të ditur një ditë përpara ceremonisë së hapjes, se drejtori Kentaro Kobayashi është shkarkuar nga detyra. Ai u akuzua se kishte bërë shaka me Holokaustin gjatë shfaqjes.
