At what age did you leave Cincinnati, and when did you return?
I was gone for a couple of years after high school, back at 20, then left again in 2005. I came back in late 2018.
Why did you return?
Things took a turn toward rotten at the publishing house where Iâd spent a decade, so I decided to leave the company. This was in the Boston/Cambridge area, where Iâd been since 2006. I headed home to Cincinnati without a solid plan; I figured Iâd spend some time here while figuring out what to do next. Opening a bookstore was something Iâd thought about for quite a while, but I had some fairly strong ideas about what I wanted it to be: small space, politically committed, community-minded, focused strongly on books and not much else. That isnât something every town can support. ....
